Lego Monkie Kid - The hidden gem Lego collectors are overlooking??? Monkey Magic!!!
Lego Monkie Kid - The hidden gem Lego collectors are overlooking???
If you're a LEGO collector, there's one theme you might be overlooking: LEGO Monkie Kid!!
Inspired by the legendary Chinese story Journey to the West, which any 70's / 80's kid will remember watching "Monkie Magic" on TV!!!
Monkie Kid combines traditional mythology with futuristic vehicles, impressive buildings, colourful characters and some seriously creative LEGO designs.
Despite producing some fantastic sets, Monkie Kid has never received the same attention as LEGO Star Wars, Harry Potter or NINJAGO. And that's exactly what makes it so interesting.
Why Is Monkie Kid So Underrated?
One reason is simply that many LEGO fans didn't discover the theme when it was originally available. Monkie Kid wasn't always as widely stocked in physical stores, meaning plenty of collectors missed out.
But look closer at the range and you'll find some genuinely impressive sets.
80024 – The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain
One of the standout sets is 80024 The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain.
With almost 2,000 pieces, the set recreates the legendary home of the Monkey King and includes multiple Monkey King characters, villains and plenty of fantastic scenery.
The combination of rockwork, waterfalls, vegetation and characters makes this much more than a traditional playset. It's also a fantastic display piece.
80036 – The City of Lanterns
Another Monkie Kid favourite is 80036 The City of Lanterns.
With more than 2,000 pieces, this colourful city features shops, restaurants, a hotel, a bubble tea café and a sky train.
It's exactly the sort of LEGO set that makes you wonder why the theme isn't more popular.
Why Collectors Should Take Notice
Monkie Kid has several qualities that make it particularly interesting to collectors:
-Unique designs that look different from other LEGO themes
-Retired sets that are becoming harder to find
-Exclusive characters and minifigures
-Large, detailed display models
-Plenty of unusual colours and interesting LEGO elements
-A strong connection to the classic Journey to the West story
A Hidden Gem?
We think Monkie Kid deserves far more attention from LEGO collectors.
Whether you're interested in the characters, minifigures, building techniques or simply want something different for your collection, there are some real gems hidden within the range.
Sets such as 80024 The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain, 80036 The City of Lanterns, 80035, 80037, 80038, 80043 and 80046 are all worth checking out.
